What is this backpack and who is it for? This is a daypack fit for the bow or rifle hunter who is also carrying a pistol. The pack comes with pistol holsters on either side.
It’s also a best selling daypack. Besides great craftsmanship, it owes its popularity to the famous Badlands warranty: “We will fix it for free forever. We don’t care if you bought it at a second-hand store, and if we can’t fix it, we will replace it.”
The backpack itself screams quality, both in materials and craftsmanship. It’s made from a fabric that’s strong and durable, but also quiet. It’s got 3 compartments and 7 pockets for a total loading volume of 1950 cubic inches.
It can carry a bow or gun, or fishing rods securely in the adjustable rifle boot. I’ve carried a lot of deer sheds in the rifle boot, and it held up very strong. This bag will hold everything you need for a one day hunting trip, from sleeping bag (attach from the bottom), to food, clothes, optics, and survival gear.
On the front there’s a smaller storage pocket at the top, and the gun or bow boot pocket at the bottom. The gun boot pulls down from the pocket when in use, and has got adjustable length cords.
There are side pockets on each side of the belt. I usually keep my rangefinders there, calls, a med pack, things you need to get to quickly without taking the backpack off.
What this backpack has that other backpacks in its class don’t have, is a built-in pistol holster on either side. No matter if you’re right-handed or left-handed, you’ll get to your gun out without hindrance. Not to mention that, if you ever carried a holster on your side and a backpack strapped around it, you know how quickly that situation becomes very uncomfortable. The Superday backpack is well thought-out in that respect and comes to solve that issue. You can fit a fairly large gun in the backpack’s holster, and secure it in place with the Velcro loop that’s attached, and pull it out with ease when you need it.
All the points where there are handles or pressure are double stitched. The chest strap can slide up and down to adjust to any torso height. The shoulder and hip belts are well padded to be comfortable under load, and allow for good ventilation along the back.
The zippers are large, strong and sturdy, also with large handy pull tabs. Another neat feature for the zippers is they’re sewn in backwards, which makes them very quiet. Plus, if one zip ever breaks (or something else breaks for that matter), you can get it fixed inside the Badlands lifetime warranty, for the price of shipping to the manufacturer.
Tips:
- The pack rides very well on the back. The ergonomics and weight distribution are very good. Once the pack is properly adjusted, the load you’re carrying feels a lot lighter.
- For folks with broad shoulders, this pack will not dig into your neck with the straps.
- The fabric is quiet, perfect for bow hunting.
A sort of a con for this pack, but not really: it’s got no internal frame or metal rods, so it’s not made to haul game in it. You could transport meat in it, but it would put a lot of stress on your shoulders. But then again, this is not the real purpose for this pack, so you have to be aware of that when you buy it. You could have a look at the Badlands 2200 for proper meat carrying.
To sum up: the Badlands Superday may not be the cheapest daypack out there, but it’s money well spent. If you’re like me, always a little skeptical with the gear I buy, fear not, this pack will live up to the expectations. When it comes to performance and durability, it’s on a par with the top packs from big brands out there.
